Spring is in the Air: Herbal Home Cleanser

When I was a child, Saturday mornings in our house used to be a "fete" while cleaning. The sounds of WLIB radio station can be heard from our windows with the latest Soca chunes from the Caribbean. I LOVED CLEANING TIME!
Well when spring came around, you can smell it in the air. My mum would open all the windows in the house to allow the winter's ole' air to escape and for the spring air to enter. INHALE-EXHALE!
My mother used to boil cinnamon and spice, not only for teas, but also to freshen the air, especially when she was cooking fish or something with curry.
I decided to make my own personal blend for the Spring!
Shanti's Spring Blend:
1. Chamomile tea bag
2. 2 sprigs of Rosemary
3. 2 sprigs of Sage
4. Cheese cloth or even a pair of tights
5. Twine

Cut a piece of cheese cloth or you can use a pair of tights.

Place the herbal blends and tea bag in the cheese cloth.

Make sure to wrap and fold the contents tightly so it doesn't escape while boiling.

I then tie some twine around the fragrant blend.

Then place the packaged blend into boiling water for about 20-30 min. I let it sit after that and just take its course in the house. I like to open the windows while the blend starts to take effect.

Tip: I actually used the blend while the water is still warm as an herbal facial steam bath!

Craft of the day: Card #2 Tanty!!

"Tanty!!! I luv yuh cooking"

"She could work miracles... Or feed twenty people on a stew made from fallen-from-the-head cabbage leaves and a carrot and a cho-cho and a palmful of meat."
-"I Am Becoming My Mother" by Lorna Goodison (1986)

There's something very comforting about the memories of my grannies', aunts, and extended aunts' cooking. I remember when we would go to Grenada on vacation to visit my grandmother and as we drove into the "gap", the scent from the kitchen would linger out, greeting us in. This is the inspiration for my card #2.

As soon as I found this pot and spoon, I knew the layout.

I added my granny's skeleton key to this card as well to add an extra vintage appeal. I love headties, especially madras ties...reminds me of my dancing days, so I had to cover Tanty's hair.

Hope you enjoyed this card and if you have any questions, please email me at MangoPaperScissors@gmail.com.

Blessings,
Shanti

Craft of the day: Card #1

Welcome to my craft for the week! This is my first card to ring in the new season called "Hello Darlin'". (Even though there's snow outside my window)

I'm so inspired by all sorts of crafts and I've recently been creating greeting cards. Today to create this card, I used clear stamps from Studio G, card stock and adhesive rhinestones from Recollections, African fabrics for my flowers, and some twine! I hope this adds a glimmer of hope for spring to your day! See you soon...
